Da Nang is more than just a stopover between Hội An and Hue — it’s a legit beach paradise. As a longtime expat living here, I’ve had the chance to explore every sandy stretch, from the busy local spots to the peaceful hidden coves. Whether you’re here to surf, tan, swim, socialize, or just breathe in the sea air, there’s a beach for that.
Here’s your ultimate guide to the beaches of Da Nang, broken down by vibe, activity, and expat insight.
My Khe Beach (Bãi biển Mỹ Khê) – The Iconic Stretch
Best for: Swimming, jogging, socializing, morning beach life
Probably the most famous beach in Da Nang, My Khe is centrally located and runs along the majority of the city’s coastline. Locals and expats alike love this spot for morning walks, beach workouts, and ocean dips. You’ll find umbrellas, loungers, and cafes dotted along the stretch, especially near the Vo Van Kiet area.
Expat tip:
The beach gets packed around 5–7 AM with locals swimming before work. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, head down after 9 AM (but bring sunscreen — no shade at this hour). Avoid weekend afternoons unless you like crowds.
Pham Van Dong Beach – The Family-Friendly Zone
Best for: Families, picnics, calm waters
Right next to My Khe, Pham Van Dong Beach is where you’ll find smoother waves and a more relaxed, family vibe. It’s where many Vietnamese families gather in the late afternoons and evenings.
Expat tip:
This is one of the best places to go if you have kids. There’s a small park area and wide sandy stretches, and the water is usually calmer here than further down south.
Bac My An Beach – Chill & Resort Vibes
Best for: Lounge days, digital nomads, resort amenities
Head south from My Khe and you’ll hit Bac My An Beach, home to resorts like Pullman and Furama. It’s quieter, cleaner, and better maintained — thanks to the resort presence. Public access still exists, so don’t feel like you need to book a room to enjoy it.
Expat tip:
Check out Hidden Beach or Holiday Beach for tucked-away spots with bean bags, WiFi, and a cold drink. This is the beach I go to when I need a peaceful laptop session with ocean views.
Non Nuoc Beach – Surf & Solitude
Best for: Surfing, quiet days, long walks
Located further south, at the base of the Marble Mountains, Non Nuoc is stunning and relatively undeveloped. The waves are stronger here — perfect for beginner to intermediate surfers. Some surf schools and rental spots like Da Nang Surf School operate in this area.
Expat tip:
Come early. By late morning the sun is scorching and shade is minimal. Pack your own snacks and water, as options are limited unless you’re at a nearby resort.
Son Tra Peninsula (Bãi biển Bắc Mỹ An to Bãi Đa) – Wild & Wonderful
Best for: Exploration, snorkeling, escape from city
The Son Tra Peninsula, also called Monkey Mountain, has some of the most untouched beach experiences in Da Nang. You’ll need a motorbike to explore this area, but it’s absolutely worth it. Key spots include:
- Bai Da Den – rocky, wild coastline good for photos and adventure
- Bai But – snorkeling and camping
- Bai Rang – natural charm, no-frills, peaceful
Expat tip:
Pack water, sunscreen, and maybe even a hammock. Some beaches charge a small entry or parking fee. You might spot monkeys — just don’t feed them.
Tien Sa Beach – Hidden Gem
Best for: Privacy, romantic walks, solo days
Hidden near the port and tucked behind a hill on Son Tra Peninsula, Tien Sa Beach is lesser known. It’s calm, not too touristy, and feels like your own secret escape.
Expat tip:
Motorbike access is best. Stop by the Tien Sa Lighthouse while you’re there for epic coastal views.
Thanh Binh Beach – The Local Scene
Best for: Local flavor, seafood, casual atmosphere
Located on the western side of Da Nang near the city center (and away from the tourist strip), Thanh Binh Beach is more of a local hangout. It’s not as scenic as My Khe or Bac My An, but it has its charm and authentic character.
Expat tip:
Head here if you want to avoid tourists completely. Great place to sample some fresh local seafood at local prices.
Red Beach (Bãi Biển Đỏ) – History & Peace
Best for: History buffs, quiet time, sunsets
A little off the beaten path, Red Beach is located on Da Nang Bay’s northwestern shore. This beach played a part in American-Vietnamese war history, and today it’s a peaceful place with few crowds.
Expat tip:
Bring your own drinks and food. There’s not much infrastructure, but the sunsets are incredible and the vibe is serene.
